Sri Krishna Temple, Udupi
Spirituality
The spiritual heart of Udupi. Sri Krishna Temple is a historic pilgrimage centre associated with Madhvacharya and known for its distinctive worship traditions, including the Kanakana Kindi. A meaningful introduction to the cultural and spiritual character of Udupi.
Best suited to guests interested in culture, history and spirituality. Karnataka Tourism currently lists the temple as open 4:30 AM–9:30 PM daily.
St. Mary's Island
Monument
A short journey from the Malpe coast to a remarkable geological landscape. St. Mary's Island is known for its distinctive hexagonal basalt rock formations, clear coastal waters and secluded shoreline. The island's famous vertical, polygonal and hexagonal lava columns were formed during the breakup of the Indian and Madagascar plates.
Ferry access is seasonal, typically October–May, and depends on sea conditions. No overnight stays.
Kaup Beach & Lighthouse
Sunset
A dramatic stretch of Karnataka's coast, where a historic lighthouse rises above the Arabian Sea. Kaup is especially rewarding in the evening, with open coastal views, beach walks and sunset light.
Today, the Kaup Lighthouse remains fully operational. It casts a powerful warning flash every 20 seconds, cutting across 24 nautical miles of the Arabian Sea to guide vessels safely home. Timings are 4-6PM
Hasta Shilpa Heritage Village, Manipal
Heritage & Architecture
An open-air heritage museum in Manipal preserving traditional architecture, art, craft and regional artefacts. Restored heritage structures offer a quieter, more considered way to experience the cultural character of coastal Karnataka.
The museum is currently listed as closed Mondays. Open from 10:00AM to 4:00PM during the week; verify current visiting details before recommending a visit.
Malpe Beach
Coast & Water Experiences
Udupi's lively coastal gateway, known for its golden sands, sea views and water-based experiences. Malpe is also the departure point for boat trips to St. Mary's Island, making it an easy starting point for a coastal day out.
